In connection with a new building project on the corner of Badenerstrasse and Segnesstrasse in Zurich-Altstetten, we were commissioned to carry out the building pollutant analysis and specialist supervision for the pollutant remediation of the existing buildings.

After previously unknown fillings which showed arsenic contamination, among other things, were found in the Hennimoos area in Diepoldsau during construction activities in 2015, which showed arsenic contamination, among other things, numerous contaminated site investigations were subsequently carried out by another specialist office. In the further course, we were finally called in by the Cantonal Office for Environment as contaminated site consultants and carried out the following work in 2020 and 2021:

A new hotel complex consisting of two up to 7-storey tall buildings is to be built at the south-western end of the village of Zermatt, Canton of Valais. As the terrain in the project perimeter rises sharply, the access to the hotel will be via an access tunnel with a lift from the street level, which is approx. 40 m lower. Due to the very steep terrain, there will be vertical excavation cuts up to 20 m high on the slope side. In combination with the geological conditions (mostly unconsolidated rock), this project represents a complex geotechnical challenge.

With a new replacement building for the "Espenhof Nord" housing for the elderly in Zurich-Albisrieden, the Foundation for Retirement Housing of the City of Zurich would like to implement innovative and forward-looking concepts for living in old age and create particularly high urban, exterior and architectural qualities. Due to the different heights of the buildings and the variable excavation depths, there are very different foundation loads that have to be absorbed by the subsoil.

In Bettwiesen, Canton of Thurgonia, waste from a galvanising plant was deposited in a pit in the 1950s - 1970s. The landfill is listed in the cadastre of contaminated sites and hosts locally high levels of heavy metal contamination that can affect groundwater and surface waters. For several years, the site has therefore been investigated and monitored in terms of contaminated sites legislation. Grundbauberatung-Geoconsulting AG has been commissioned to close any remaining knowledge gaps about the spatial distribution of pollutants by executing additional investigations (excavator slots, sampling) and, based on this, to examine and specify existing approaches for the remediation of this site. The investigation thus provides the basis for a subsequent remediation project.
